The Mighty Angel with the Little Book

“I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars.”

Revelation 10:1-3a NKJV

We saw in Revelation 9 the judgment of the sixth trumpet or second woe (read about it HERE). But it’s not over yet. A mighty angel with a little book has an assignment for John from heaven before the rest of this woe is finished. Interestingly, this is the only time God silences a response.

When he cried out, seven thunders uttered their voices. Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, ‘Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.

Revelation 10:3b-4 NKJV

Doesn’t it make you curious to know what the seven thunders said? We’ll just have to use our imaginations and wait until we get to heaven to understand this mystery.

The next verses about this mighty angel are beautiful. He swears by God, our Creator, that the wait for the mystery of God will be over during the sounding of the seventh trumpet. Can’t you imagine the prophets of the Old Testament rejoicing in heaven?

The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised up his hand to heaven and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, that there should be delay no longer, but in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.

Revelation 10:5-7 NKJV

John eats the little book.

Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, ‘Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.

So I went to the angel and said to him, ‘Give me the little book.

And he said to me, ‘Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.

Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter. And he said to me, ‘You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.

Revelation 10:8-13 NKJV

Doesn’t it make us curious as to why John had to eat a little book that was like sweet honey in his mouth but bitter in his stomach? Perhaps we have been forewarned about the severity of the distaste of these coming prophecies.

We will see that the second woe continues into Chapter 11 where we are introduced to the two witnesses. Although we only hear about them at this point, we find out that they have already been witnessing during the first half of the Tribulation.

Now events will rapidly escalate from this point forward. Are you ready?

Dear Father, thank you for allowing us to see these mysteries of preparation for the coming prophecies. How wonderful to hear that the mystery of God would be completed during the sounding of the seventh trumpet. All your prophecies are true and Amen. We ask for Your divine understanding as we delve into the second half of Revelation. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.

  1. What was in the book indeed? Such great symbology in Revelation, isn’t there? As we see these things unfold, I thank God that my vantage point is secure dear sister. We can only know a small amount today, but in the time to come, we will know all we need to know. God’s blessings.

    1. Agreed, brother. And they are definitely unfolding at an increased rate. Yes, our vantage point is indeed secure. May the Holy Spirit draw the lost into His fold quickly in these end days. Blessings on your week! 🙏🏻✝️
