Beside Quiet Waters

The summer is starting to peak in Texas, consuming all things green and flowering. Day after day, the sun stabs the still air with its fiery glare, pre-heating the morning with the wicked promise of an afternoon inferno that scorches everything within reach.

No shade-giving clouds.

No tender breezes.

No wet raindrops to cool the parched earth that holds its mouth open and begs for one drop to cool its tongue.

Nothing but heat and sun, sun and heat.

All. Day. Long.

Sometimes our spirits experience this same scenario, and we go through periods of drought. We pray for the sweet rain of the Holy Spirit to fall, but the desert road continues. We ask, “Will this heat never end?”

God gives us answers to these times.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought nor cease to yield fruit” ~ Jeremiah 17:7-8, NASB.

What are you struggling through today?

Health issues? Keep praying for His healing touch.

Employment or financial issues? Stretch out your hand of faith and He will lead you to cool waters.

Marriage or relationship issues? Trust Him to be your peacemaker as you walk in forgiveness and humbleness of heart.

Emotional issues such as stress or loneliness? Turn to Him and let Him be your all in all.

You can be sure of this—the Holy Spirit will come and water you with His rain. You will survive your drought, like a refreshed flower garden. Don’t give up and don’t be discouraged.

As Habakkuk pleaded for God to answer his prayers, may we also take solace in His comforting answer.

“For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal, and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it, for it will certainly come, it will not delay” ~ Habakkuk 2:3, NASB.

Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.

The Holy Spirit’s rain is on its way.
